Updated by user Feb 22, 2026

Just a brief update on what has been an absolutely extraordinary experience. I have been double-billed for close to a year now - earlier this month, Dropbox said that I had run out of space and would start to delete my files if I didn't pony up before April 1st.

I am appalled and just disgusted with these people - they are the worst of the worst. I have written to them about the double-billing issue for several months, but this is a bridge too far. And nary a word from them. I am going to report them to the BBB and other consumer agencies.

All I can say is that I hope whoever reads this will think twice about opening an account with them.

No phone number to call, non-existant customer service - the very nadir of a rapacious, money-grubbing business who couldn't give a fig for their consumers. They crossed the wrong guy and I will shout the from every rooftop in my town and warn people about them - anyway, that's the deal - I will keep you posted.

Original review Jan 26, 2026
I have had a Dropbox account for several years - and I find them adequate, at best. Last year, in an effort to consolidate expenses, I signed up for their annual subscription service - April 3, 2025 -and paid $199.99.

Somebody didn't get the memo, because they continue to bill me MONTHLY @$33.97. Full disclosure: when I signed up for the annual plan, it was NOT the same email account I use for the monthly. I wrote to them about this - they say that they emailed me to explain how to transfer files from the monthly to the annual. That email must have gone to my SPAM file, because I NEVER received it.
To make matters worse, they continue to hound me every month on the original monthly plan for payment.

Try to get to speak to someone either on the site or, dare I make the suggestion, on the TELEPHONE - you know that device the entire world uses for texting.

Impossible. Among the very worst customer service extant, IMHO.
I am writing to all the sites about this and the BBB - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Pros:
  • As clouds go
  • Are adequate
Cons:
  • Billing snarus go ignored and horrendous customer service

Preferred solution: Partial reimbursement and RESTORED FILES - I'll give them a break - from July 2025 through January 2026

User's recommendation: Have your head examined before opening an account with Dropbox

Non existent customer support

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Unable to cancel the trial; tried manage account and two support messages.
  • - Trial began less than a week ago; plan to block charges.

I have been trying to access a trial account for three days to CANCEL it. I have sent two messages to "customer support." I have tried to cancel my account under "manage my account" -

I'm not interested in using this service since it offers no meaningful customer support and there is no way to reach a human being.

I started the trial account less than a week ago.My next step will be to contact my credit card company to block any attempted charges from this company.

Cons:
  • Non-existent customer suppot

Preferred solution: Confirmation that the trial account has been canceled and that I will not be charged; files and my information have been deleted from their servers.

User's recommendation: Cannot recommend.

I have been subscribing to Dropbox Plus...

I have been subscribing to Dropbox Plus for the past few years. I paid $127.08 in January.

However, I have been having problems with syncing. I was told that my plan is basic and the storage is full.

Would you please check my account and correct the level of the plan? It should be 'PLUS' rather than 'BASIC'.

Hello,

I downgraded my Dropbox account from 2TB storage to Basic in May 2026, but it didn't work because it was renewed today (July 12, 2026), and payment was made. I would like a refund immediately because I don't need this amount of storage anymore.

I contacted Dropbox and was requested to pay to speak to someone!

Irritating!

When I log onto my desktop computer an advertisement from Dropbox appears on the screen with options like 'Remind me later' etc.

The sudden unsolicited appearance of this advertising panel is irritating and, while it persists, I will not buy a Dropbox product.

My new iPad I got from verizon was backed up to Dropbox while I was sleeping.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I don't know what happened, but while I was sleeping, my new iPad got on my hotspot and began a 25G trip back and forth to Dropbox. I woke up and saw an email stating this event took place. But it wasn't just a backup; it took files from iCloud and stored them there.

Pause there and jump back a few months. I had an issue with my phone being full. My iCloud was being weird because of failed backups or something, but anyway, that is when I decided to use Dropbox based on some reviews. I moved files around for a few days, and when I was done, I logged out of Dropbox and deleted the app off my phone.

Fast forward to the incident. I initiated the setup of my iPad off of my iPhone backup. I do not see how, but Dropbox was on my iPhone backup and subsequently loaded to the iPad. That's the setup; all I know from there is that per Screentime, my phone screen was on for 1 hour and 40 mins. That would be long enough to snatch 25G of data. The issue is there is no proof either way who did what. I simply asked firmly for Dropbox's help to recover my deleted files. In every email from Dropbox, they did not offer any help, and I also had to pay for the increased storage. I can only presume they are confident enough to say that their product could not have done that. Same thing Verizon said when their system connected to my phone. There are database logs for a reason. Dropbox acted like they don't, but whatever.

This past Sunday, I zipped up all my files into one file and began the download. It was completed rather quickly, so I verified what I had and then went to Dropbox to remove the leftover files permanently. Once that was done, I logged out of and deleted the Dropbox account while also removing it from my phone.

My iCloud tried backing up the zip file. It couldn't do it. I quickly discovered that the downloaded file was corrupt. That was not indicated to me when the download of the zip file had completed on my end. Now I panic because I permanently deleted the files on Dropbox. I have asked Dropbox again to help me get back my now permanently deleted files because I know they still exist on their server. I haven't gotten anything from them yet.

There is a known problem between Dropbox and iCloud that I didn't know about. The reality is I have lost 25G of data at no fault of my own. Nothing I can do.

Loss:
$19
Pros:
  • No pros
Cons:
  • Do not accept responsibility
  • Lack of customer service for free
  • Lack of phone support

Preferred solution: My files back and money back.

User's recommendation: No, absolutely not. It wants to backup your photos constantly bothering you about it. Then you will have what I had happen to you.

You need to let someone you know and trust (that has some IT skills) read your post. It is glaringly obvious what happened. And it’s not DB’s fault.

if you are thinking what i think you are thinking there is no way. there is nothing positive that will come out of chasing that rabbit. i took the ipad back to them that day and walked.

I didn't mean to insinuate YOU were at fault or something nefarious happened. There are just TONS of device/software settings in multiple places that let this happen.

You know the name of this site right? I did not require nor did I ask for or need unsolicited help.

Coming up in here as a guest acting like my business is your business. YOU better take a class on texting and learn how to use your words properly. Oh and there is NOT a TON of settings. Educate yourself.

Hey, pissedconsumer.com, your company didn't tell me anything about trolls existing here. Handle this GUEST will you.
